J&K Bank Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer, Mr. A. K. Mehta inaugurated a new branch of the Bank at Zampa Leh on November 14, 2008. This is the 18th branch of J&K Bank in Ladakh Zone and overall 569th branch of the bank. Mr. A. K. Mehta was in Ladakh to have first hand information about the business potential of the Zone and for making the banking services more accessible to the people of Ladakh in line with the Bank policies formulated by the Chairman Dr. Haseeb A. Drabu. He took some on spot decisions for making banking services more accessible to the people of the region. "The bank will tailor area specific products to boost the economy of Ladakh Zone. Besides, all the branches of the Zone will be put on Finacle by March-09 so that customers of the region are able to operate their accounts anywhere in the country at the bank branches," said Mr. Mehta and further disclosed that the bank shall be installing three more ATMs, besides staring depository services in the zone. It is notable that the Bank for the past few years has adopted the policy of empowering the people of J&K. Under its policy of reaching out to all, the bank is expanding its branch network through out the state and has introduced tailor made products for various sectors of economy. As a part of this ambitious plan, the Area office Leh was upgraded to a Zonal Office in the month of May-08 in order to speed up the decision making so that the business decisions pertaining to Ladakh Zone are finalized at local level.
