The function, which was first of its kind in the village, was attended by large number of customers of the bank, belonging particularly to artisan community.
The impressive Mela was a part of the Bank's initiative to extend financial support to the state's handicrafts industry and the craftsmen associated with the sector. Agriculture Minister, Ghulam Hassan Mir, handed over loan sanction letters to 76 artisans amounting to Rs.1.20 crores. This also included 6 cases of unemployed youth who have been granted financial support under the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme.
Ghulam Hassan Mir, Agriculture Minister, while appreciating the role of J&K Bank in reaching out to poor and needy in areas like Hardabura said, "J&K Bank is crown of the state. It is because of the hard work of its employees that the bank has emerged as the most profitable institution from the state. Today J&K Bank has once again proved that this bank is for poor. Providing financial support to craftsmen, who mostly live in abject poverty, leaves no scope of complaints against the bank." While complementing the initiative of providing timely financial support to poor artisans and unemployed youth of the village in hard times of recession which has already hit the handicrafts industry, the minister said, "The bank has been improving its contact with people at all levels, but it is the responsibility of the people also to respond positively. These kind of initiatives have shown that bank gives equal treatment to all and never discriminates on the basis of being poor or rich." He emphasized the need to be a good customer and asked the artisans to utilize the loan amount properly and ensure timely repayment of the loan. He also announced that the government should be soon establishing marketing outlets so that the products produced by the craftsmen are marketed properly and profitably. The minister praised the performance of the Kunzar branch of the bank and lauded the proactive approach of the branch head, Aijaz Ahmad.
Parvez Ahmad, President of the Bank, in his address outlined the strong base of the bank because of peoples' support. "The bank is internationally known for having strong fundamentals. We have been supporting each and every sector of the state's economy, be it agriculture, horticulture, handicrafts or industries sector and the bank has tailored relevant products for each economic sector," said Parvez Ahmad. He stated that the bank during the past few years has been focusing on the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
