J&K Bank submits data of eligible farmers to GoI
The J&K Bank, Convenor of the State Level Bankers' Committee (SLBC), has finalized and submitted the data regarding the reimbursable amount and other information under the Agricultural Debt Waiver and Debt Relief Scheme -2008 to Government of India through Reserve Bank of India. As per the parameters of the scheme, 39658 farmers have been found eligible under the scheme involving an amount of Rs7804.32 lacs. This includes 36818 small and marginal farmers eligible for debt waiver involving an amount of Rs.7106.03 lacs and 2842 other famers eligible for Debt relief (OTS) involving an amount of Rs698.29 lacs. Cooperative Credit Institutions have claimed major share of the total claim, which is Rs.3353.79 lacs spread over 19870 beneficiaries. Private sector banks operating in the state have total claim of Rs.2469.14 lacs spread over 9256 beneficiaries. Regional Rural banks, Public sector bank and Urban cooperative banks have claimed Rs.1108.70 lacs (spread over 5822 beneficiaries), 863.32 lacs (spread over 4685 beneficiaries) and 9.37 lacs (25 beneficiaries) respectively. The overall claim includes crop loan of Rs.3326.34 lacs, allied activity Rs.2525.56 lacs and investment of Rs.1952.42 lacs. It is worth mentioning that banks and lending institutions have, in addition to the above, conceded the benefit to the tune of Rs.2048.65 lacs to the eligible farmers in the shape of unapplied interest, prudential and actual written off amounts, interest in excess of principal, other charges etc. not reimbursable to the banks and lending institutions from the government under the scheme.
