J&K Bank strong; poised for stupendous growth: Chidambaram
Mr P Chidambaram, Union Finance Minister today inaugurated J&K Bank's new Zonal Complex (Northern India) in Gurgaon. Mr P Chidambaram, in his address said that "J&K bank is a medium sized but a strong bank poised for stupendous growth in the years ahead". He appreciated the role of the bank in ushering economic development in the state. Complementing the management of the Bank, the Finance minister said that the bank has become a much stronger bank in recent years Mr. Narendra Nath Vohra (Governor of J&K), Mr. Jairam Ramesh (MoS - Commerce & Power) were the guests of honour on the occasion. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, His Excellency, Mr. Narendra Nath Vohra, Governer of Jammu & Kashmir said, "If there is one institution that does the state proud, it is the J&K Bank. For us in the state, it is not just a commercial bank; it is also the banker to the state government." Mr Jairam Ramesh,state minister for power & commerce while speaking on the occasion requested the finance minister to facilitate banking relationships between two parts of Kashmir to give boost to the recently initiated cross LoC trade. On the occasion, Dr Haseeb A Drabu, Chairman & CEO, J&K Bank said , "We are a regional bank in origin, national bank in reach and an international bank in the quality of operations and ownership. At present the bank has six zones outside of J&K. North Zone, the new office for which was inaugurated today, and West Zone are large in terms of business." The zonal complex architecture represents a unique blend of modern engineering and rich heritage of Kashmir. The functional quality of the complex has been enhanced by beautiful papier-mâché artworks on its pillars, khatamband ceilings and breathtaking patterns of the famed Sozni craft etched on the glass walls. Famous "Divri" stones have been laid out in the lawns of the building to make typical kashmiri pathways.
