J&K Bank lifts SK Gold cup : Chief Minister gives away prizes
J&K Bank football team defeating Forest-XI in the final of the Sheri-Kashmir gold cup at GGM Science College ground on Monday.
In the match JK Bank defeated Forest by 1-0 and lifted the title. Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah was chief guest on the occasion and he distributed prizes among the winners.
Earlier in the match JK Bank outplayed Forest-XI who had defeated them on Sunday in every department of the game. From the start JK Bank played aggressively and were looking in revenge mood. They made volleys of attacks and forced JK Bank to go on defensive. In 24th minute, Forest defender made a dangerous tackle on Bank player inside penalty area. Referee spotted the foul and awarded JK Bank with penalty kick. Adil Qadri converted that into goal for Bank. After that no goal was scored in the match and Bank went on to win the match by 1-0.
Meanwhile JK Bank Sports Board, Chairman, Tafazal Hussain and Officers Association Jammu have congratulated team for the win. Speaking on the occasion Tafazal Hussain said, "Team deserves applause for their brilliant play. Though they lost to same team on Sunday but quality of play was high. We are proud of our team and hope they will achieve many more glories in future."
Speaking about the Sheri-Kashmir, Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah, he said, "During his time he made every attempt to promote sports. He was keen football fan and watched many historical matches himself."
The tournament was organized by Jammu and Kashmir Youth National Conference under the aegis of J&K Football Association.
As many as 22 football teams participated in the tournament. The teams were divided in the two pools. The championship was played on knock-out basis and had started on January 18th. The Pool matches were held at Parade Ground while knockout matches were played GGM Science College Ground.
