J&K Bank disburses Rs1100 crores in six months in J&K Dr. Drabu inaugurates JKSLBC website
The J&K State Level Banker's Committee today formally launched its Internet website to give a fillip to the efforts of member banks/ Financial Institutions in the state towards lending to various sectors of the economy. The website, www.jkslbc.com, was formally inaugurated by Dr. Haseeb A Drabu, Chairman & Chief Executive of J&K Bank in the SLBC meeting, 74th in series, held here. The website has been developed by the IT engineers of J&K Bank.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Haseeb Drabu termed the launch of the website as a breakthrough in leveraging technology for enhancing the performance of JKSLBC. "The website will provide anywhere-anytime accessibility to the plans and performance of members banks and Financial institutions. Online submission of information and data, especially regarding credit flow to priority sector will enhance the performance of the Committee and will go a long way in taking timely credit decisions to various sectors of the state's economy," said Dr. Drabu.
Notably, the State Level Bankers' Committee meeting was presided over by Dr Haseeb Drabu. Top functionaries of the J&K State administration including Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary Planning, Principal Secretary Agriculture, Commissioner Secretary Finance Department, top management of J&K bank, heads of various line departments, Development agencies, Regional Director Reserve Bank of India for J&K, Chief General Manager NABARD and representatives of all banks/ financial institutions operating in the State attended the meeting to review the performance of banks/ financial institutions operating in the State under Annual Credit Plan (ACP) and deliberated upon various issues related to different sectors of economy and employment.
While giving a presentation on the performance of the banks, Dr Drabu informed the house that out of total disbursement of credit of Rs.1599 crores by all banks operating in the state from April to September 2008, J&K Bank alone has disbursed Rs 1100 crores and has achieved 60% of its annual targets. In his inaugural address, Dr. Drabu urged the banks to dovetail the priority sector lending targets in their business plans to ensure proper implementation of credit plans set by the SLBC.
The meeting discussed the performance of banks vis-a-vis lending to the priority sector in the state. Under priority sector, banks have disbursed an amount of Rs.830.94 Crore in favour of 45,465 beneficiaries against Annual target of Rs.1909.85 Crore for 1,74,170 beneficiaries from April to September 2008.
In Agriculture sector, the banks at the end of September 30, 2008, have disbursed an amount of Rs.175.43 Crore. J&K Bank is the major contributor with Rs 122 Crores.
J&K Bank has also been the major contributor to the achievements under Small Enterprises sector. Out of total disbursement of Rs.270.30 Crore at the end of September 2008, as against an annual target of Rs.448.62 Crore, the Bank has granted loans under this sector to the tune of Rs.163.37 Crore.
In Retail Trade sector, the banks have achieved the financial target to the extent of Rs.215.06 Crore at the end of the September 2008, as against the annual target of Rs.367.56 Crore.
In Micro Credit sector, the banks at the end of September 30, 2008, have disbursed an amount of Rs.71.02 Crore to achieving 16% of annual targets for the sector.
In Housing sector, the performance of banks at the end of September 30, 2008 has been excellent. An amount of Rs.76.63 Crores has been disbursed to 2,974 beneficiaries as against the annual target of Rs.95.92 Crore .
In Education sector, the banks at the end of September 30, 2008, have disbursed an amount of Rs.22.50 Crore to 1,157 beneficiaries as against the annual target of Rs.65.07 Crore for 2,772 beneficiaries for the said period achieving, thereby, 35% of targets.
