Dastkar Finance Mela : JK Bank's NIT branch disburses Rs.16 lacs to artisans
Continuing with its endeavor to provide comprehensive finance to the people associated with the micro-economic activities, J&K Bank organized a Dastkar Finance Mela at its REC/NIT branch here today.
The impressive Mela was a part of Bank's initiative to launch a massive drive towards financial inclusion and to give boost to the state's regional sub-economic activities.
On-the-spot loan disbursement to the tune of Rs.16.05 lacs was made to around fifty artisans, financed under Dastkar Finance Scheme. J&K Bank Presidents, Tafazal Hussain & Parvez Ahmad, Director NIT, Srinagar, A R Wanchoo and Deputy Director Handicrafts Department, Abdul Rashid Shah distributed payment orders to the artisans. Among other present on the occasion were J&K Bank's Business Development & Sales Manager, M. A. Chalo and Branch Head NIT, Riyaz Ahmad Wani.
Speaking on the occasion Tafazal Hussain, President of the Bank, expressed discontent on the lack of business and employment opportunities, and peoples' failure to preserve arts, crafts and heritage of the state. " Lack of commitment on our part, government apathy, financial intermediaries, exploitation both within and from outside are the reasons for our mess," he said.
He assured the gathering of Bank's support to explore business and employment opportunities so as to empower every segment of the society. Guided by our strategy, Tafazal said, we customize our products as per peoples requirements. Referring to the recent business meet of the Bank with non- residents of the state in Dubai, Tafazal said, "Dubai experience taught me one thing that given an opportunity, people of the state have the potential to achieve great heights. "Our people are doing fantastic business there, which clearly implies that we are talented but lack exposure and opportunity. And we at J&K Bank understand it and are devising means, products and services to provide our talented people proper working conditions, comprehensive finance and business exposure to empower themselves", he added.
Parvez Ahmed, President & Zonal Head (Central Kashmir) in his address emphasized that J&K Bank's strategy and growth model revolve round the goals of empowering people and development of the state. "We are for all-round development of the state. Giving boost to all sectors of state economy, devising financial activity specific products, hassle free procedures, preservation of heritage, boost up arts and crafts etc. is what makes J&K Bank a brand ambassador of J&K state", Parvez Ahmed stressed.
A R Wanchoo, Director, NIT, Srinagar described the Bank's initiative as more about CSR than pure banking. "J&K Bank continues to play a pivotal role in the state's development and people who are financed under schemes like Dastkar Finance should understand it. And I am sure that an honest utilization of this money can change fortunes" he said. Abdul Rashid Shah, Deputy Director Handicrafts urged the artisans to cooperate with the Bank officials and Handicrafts department to make their lives better. "This is just the beginning. You show a will to work and invest the money in your craft, who will see more and more Bank finance coming and government schemes helping you out, " he said.
